Are You a Hero, a Villain, or Supporting Cast?
Every one of us is living in a movie, a novel, a play. We have costumes, and we wear masks. And, there is an order of Acts that lead to the end of, well, us. For each of us, though, the movie is a little different. But I tell you what, my movie stars me. I’m the featured act. And I’ll venture to say, you are the Hero in your own play.
You might witness heroic acts on news clips or read about them in headlines. Heroic acts that you might say to yourself, “Now, there’s a hero.” Those heroes are the Heroes in their own novels, in their own movies. There might be other people in your life: loved ones who do heroic things, maybe specifically for you. They help you move along in your novel, possibly by giving you the courage, or the drive, to do more heroic things yourself. You might even call those people in your life “heroes,” but they aren’t you. You are the only one that sees the world through your eyes. You are the only one that knows your thoughts and feels your feelings. You are the only person in the entire world that can control you, and you are the only person you can control. You are the Hero in your own movie.
All those other heroes who do heroic things are just supporting cast for you and your play, and God knows we need them!
I can tell you this much, in the Legend of Adam, (It’s a working title. I’ll take notes if you have any) I am the Hero. No one else takes highest billing. There’s room for one Hero, and I’m him. Now, the roles for supporting cast, those who support my movie and me, can never be full. There are always openings. I’m always actively looking for more. The call sheet is blank; just write your name.
There is also a countless number of positions open for villains, too.
Get that?
In someone else’s play, you can either be supporting cast or a villain. Those are your two options.
Which one are you going to choose? And, it is a choice. Remember, Hero, you are the only one who can control you. There are two lines. Which one are you going to stand in? You can either support someone else’s movie and its Hero, or you can become a villain in that same movie. And remember, just like any good plot-twist ending, supporting cast members can become villains, and villains can become supporting cast members. The individuals in the supporting cast can even do such amazing feats that they become, in our Hero’s eyes, on the same level. They become a sage, a guide, a trustee, a confidant, a peer. You can walk with a Hero, as a hero, and be looked upon in honor and held in esteem.
In Real Estate, like any business, it’s important to support our clients and serve them. The more heroic our deeds, the greater the tale—“Adam and Natalie in the Quagmire of Negotiations” or “Adam and Natalie and the Quest to Find the Perfect Home.”
You can’t be someone’s Hero, but you can support Heroes on their quests. And don’t forget, please don’t forget, you can always become a villain.
